The National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) yesterday December 28, 2010 officially signed the EPC contract (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) for Long Phu 1 thermo power plant to be sited in Long Duc Commune, Long Phu Dist, Soc Trang province. PetroVietnam was the main investor for this project while PetroVietnam Technical Services Joint Stock Corp (PTSC) as the EPC contractor.
Signing EPC contract was considered the importance forwarding step to kick off construction work on thermo power plant in early January 2011. The Long Phu 1 thermo power plant is located in an area of 115 hectares, including two turbines with designed capacity of 600MW each. The coal-fed thermo power plant will use high quality coal imported from Indonesia and Australia.
The contractor expected to put the first turbine of the power plant into commercial operation in 2014 after 39 months of construction, and the second one in early 2015. When in operation, Long Phu 1 thermo power plant will supply the national grid 7.8 billion KWh per year, making contribution to the socio-economic development progress in the Mekong Delta region.
