1tr dong budgeted for poverty alleviation
The people’s committee of central highland province of Gia Lai said that they plan to invest about 932 billion dong for the poverty alleviation programme of the province for stage 2006 to 2010 with the target of reducing poverty from 2% to 3% every year.
Out of the total investment, 522.2 billion dong is for hunger and poverty alleviation projects and the rest of 410 billion dong is for other joint projects relating to poverty reduction.
Big investment projects are composed of infrastructure construction for extremely poor communes with 186 billion dong, water conservation project with 150 billion dong and new economic development project with 101 billion dong.
There are a reported 66,000 or more poor households in Gia Lai taking up 29.82% of which 54,562 households are ethnic people taking up 82.53% of entire poor households in the province.
