August 3: Vietnam Stocks Extend Gain, Liquidity Remains Low

Vietnamese shares ended in the green today but liquidity shrank as both buyers and sellers were in high caution.

The benchmark VN Index rose 2.11 points or 0.51 percent to 418.21. Volume rose 10.42 percent to 24.2 million shares worth of VND384.4 billion. Put through trading contribute 2.5 million shares worth of VND55.54 billion. We saw 1 million KDC shares changed hands at VND37,900 in the put through deals.

The market breadth turned negative on the primary bourse where 101 stocks advanced, 121 declined, 87 closed unchanged.

The VN30 added 3.26 points or 0.66 percent, to 497.38. Amongst its 30 members, 13 gained, 9 lost and 8 unchanged.

The market opened in the green with 1.2 million shares changed hands, caution eased a bit. The trading pace was slow as both buyers and sellers were in the waiting mood. The buyers, however, accepted to buy shares at a premium in some blue chips and sent the index higher. Market closed at the high today.

Sacombank Securities JSC. (SBS) suddenly became the most active stock with 1.55 million shares traded, closing down 4.8 percent to VND4,000. The share is allowed to trade only in the last 15 minutes of ATC session as it posted heavy losses in the past quarters and has not yet released Q2/2012 financial reports. More interestingly, there were over 1 million share bids left unfilled at the close.

Ocean Group JSC. (OGC) came second with 1.2 million shares changed hands, closing up 2.3 percent to VND13,100.

Sacom Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) ranked third with 1.1 million shares traded, closing up 2.5 percent to VND8,200.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX bucked trend, sledding 0.07 point or 0.01 percent to 68.91. Trading volume rose 4.5 percent to 27.4 million shares worth VND391.2 billion.

The market breadth was negative where 90 rallied, 99 declined, 77 closed unmoved, the rest untraded.

HNX30 rose 0.16 point or 0.12 percent to 130.23.

VNDirect Securities (VND), the most active on the measure with 3 million shares changed hands, closing up 0.9 percent to VND10,800.

Sai Gon Thuong Tin Real Estate JSC (SCR) came second in volume with 2.1 million units traded, closing up 2.1 percent to VND9,900 per share.

Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) ranked third with 2 million shares traded, closing up to VND9,700.
