August 9: Vietnam Stocks Extend Gain Led By Heavy Weighs

Vietnamese shares edged up today with support from heavy weighs, liquidity rose.

The benchmark VN Index gained 3.41 points or 0.8 percent to 426.98. Volume rose by 81 percent to 43.06 million shares worth of VND728.3 billion. Put through trading contribute 5.58 million shares worth of VND179 billion.

The market breadth was positive on the primary bourse where 133 stocks advanced, 96 declined, 80 closed unchanged.

The VN30 added 4.84 points or 0.96 percent, to 508.58. Amongst its 30 members, 21 gained, 4 lost and 5 unchanged.

Market opened in the green with 1.8 million shares changed hands as rising momentum extended. The market went on in high caution but buyers were actually more aggressive today, accepting higher prices. However, selling pressure also rose as the market advanced 5 out of the latest 6 trading session, prompting some profit taking efforts. The index was still in the resistance range despite gains seen in heavy weighs.

Heavy weighs BVH, MSN, VMN, VCB were solid gainers today. BVH at a time hit ceiling before paring some gain.

Banking shares were firm CTG, EIB, VCB were gainers while MBB stayed in the neutral line and STB fell. Banking sector was boosted by HBB and SHB merger and prices of the two banks continued to hit the ceiling on the northern bourse.

Broker shares were mixed, HCM, SSI gained while SBS lost ground to hit floor today with no bidding left unfilled.

Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) was the most active stock on a trade of 2.2 million shares, closing up 1.5 percent to VND7,000.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) was the second most traded issue on the gauge with 1.4 million units, rising 1.9 percent to settle at VND21,200.

Na Ri Hamico Mineral JSC. (KSS) ranked third with 1.3 million shares traded, closing up 2.1 percent to VND9,600.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX advanced 0.31 point or 0.44 percent to 70.79. Trading volume eased 0.3 percent to 39.5 million shares worth VND376.5 billion.

The market breadth was still positive where 110 rallied, 94 declined, 86 closed unmoved, the rest untraded.

HNX30 gained 0.88 point or 0.65 percent to 135.98.

PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) was the most active on the measure with 3.9 million shares changed hands, closing up 1.2 percent to end at VND8,700.

VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) came second in volume with 3.6 million shares traded, ending flat at VND11,400 per share.

Saigon – Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) ranked third with 3.4 million shares changed hands, closing up 6.7 percent to VND9,500 each.
