The British University Vietnam project, which aims to open a private university granting British degrees in Vietnam, was officially launched in Hanoi Tuesday, said Apollo Education and Training in a press statement.

UK Prince Andrew attended the inaugural ceremony.

The university will initially operate out of a rented facility but will build its own premises within 3 years, project managers said.

The short-term target is to have 1,000 students with a medium term target of 3,000 students and a long-term plan of 10,000 students.

The University will focus on business and technology, offering full degrees from the University of London and Staffordshire University.

The British University Vietnam headquarters will be in Hanoi with a branch in HCM City.

The project was initiated by Apollo Education and Training founders Khalid Muhmood and Arabella Peters.

“We are doing more than setting up a university,” said Muhmood, who serves as Chair of British University Vietnam.

“We’re helping change lives. We are changing the reputation of private education in Vietnam. Today’s launch is a first step.”

Established in 1994, Apollo trains students and businesspeople in English and business skills at campuses in Hanoi and HCM City.
