A lawmaker in HCM City has proposed that the city should build a casino dedicated to serving foreigners. The proposal was made by Nguyen An Binh, deputy of the HCM City People’s Council, the city’s legislative body at a seminar October 11.
So far, Cambodian casinos near the border with Vietnam have attracted a large number of foreign clients, with many of them coming from HCM City, Binh said.
Chair of the People’s Committee, Pham Phuong Thao, said at the seminar that the proposal was worthy of serious consideration.
HCM City has seen a sharp increase in the number of foreign visitors over the past few years, up 35% (1.3 million visitors) in the first 8 months of this year versus 2004.
