China nudges Aust aside in PNG $3bn aid loan to build roads
China is making a plunge into the Australian region, offering to provide Papua New Guinea with a $3 billion soft loan to rebuild its crumbling roads, especially the Highlands Highway, the country’s transport spine.
This will provide a shot in the arm for prime minister Peter O’Neill’s People’s National Congress party, as PNG’s five-yearly elections start on Saturday.
