Tour agencies in Hanoi and HCM city are complaining that tourists from China who were issued instant tourist cards when entering Vietnam are not allowed to buy domestic air fights.
This is despite a recent announcement that they can now travel to any province they wish instead of the previously limit of six areas. After the regulation was issued, many Chinese tourists flocked to Vietnam but found they would wind up stranded in HCM City after flying there. Not surprisingly, many simply cancelled their plans to visit Vietnam.
From the beginning of this year, Vietnam received just over half a million tourists from China travelling on visas, an increase of 39% against the same period last year, according to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
