Cigarettes for export exempt from luxury tax
From July this year, Special Consumption Tax (SCT) will be lifted from export cigarettes.
After lobbying from the Vietnam National Tobacco Corp (Vinataba) and requests from the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance has agreed to lift SCT from cigarettes exported by Vinataba. The Ministry of Finance has sent documentation on the decision to various Tax departments.
Previously, if 51% or more of their input materials were imported from overseas, export filter cigarettes would incur an SPT rate of 65%. This rate reduced to 45% for those with less than 51% imported material.
