Coal mining output in January reached 2.39 million tonnes or a year-on-year increase of 53% due to favourable weather conditions, said a source of the Ministry of Industry.
Vietnam Coal Corp (Vinacoal) produced nearly 2.25 million tonnes of clean coal in January, up 49.8% against last year and sold some 2.15 million tonnes of coal, increasing by 64% yoy.
Exported clean coal was over one million tonnes, up 84% yoy.
The ministry forecasts domestic demand for clean coal in the year will increase from 12 million tonnes to 13.5 million tonnes of clean coal and total coal mined will reach about 27.2 million tonnes, an increase of 3.6% over last year.
Vinacoal expects to mine the bulk of the coal at about 26 million tonnes.
