Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has recently said that the selling price of dust coal for electricity production plants has been adjusted up by 5 percent from 520,000 dong per tone to 546,000 dong per tone.

Talking with Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon Online on late March 9, Nguyen Van Bien, head of Vinacomin’s Price Planning Department, said this increase of coal price for power plants has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and it has been officially being applied since the beginning of March at the same time of the electricity price rise.

According to Bien, due to the input costs of coal sector increased, pushing up the production costs, so Vinacomin has also proposed to increase the selling price of coal by over 10 percent for other production fields such as cement, paper and fertiliser.

However, the proposal of increasing the coal price for other consumption objects is still under the consideration of the MoIT and relevant agencies, Bien said.

In last March, Vinacomin also adjusted up the coal selling price by 28 percent for electricity plants of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
