The Ministry of Trade has issued a statement saying that it will not grant quotas to 23 companies to export garments to the US in the first quota allocation for by 2005.
The statement says the 23 companies were either put on the suspicion list by U.S customs officers in a recent inspection or are allegedly involved in the recently surfaced garment quota scandal.
The U.S customs officers found in August that 19 of these companies failed to meet the data storage requirements, had lower–than–announced output capacity, sent shipments although their quotas were used up, closed shop, or disappeared, says the statement.
The other four are under investigation on allegations that they have bought or sold their quotas, according to statement signed by Trade minister Truong Dinh Tuyen.
There are Asia Garment and Trading Co Ltd, QMI Industrial Vietnam Co, Phu Hoa Garment Co and Qualitex Co.
