Construction of Vietnam’s tenth golf course and a resort to go with it received underway in the town of Hoi An in Quang Nam Province on January 26.
What will be the first golf course in the central region is being developed by a company called Sai Thanh International Tourism Investment J.S., or STI for short
The US$28 million project is called Hoi An Golf Resort and takes up nearly 130 hectares of Dien Duong Ward in Dien Ban District.
The 18 links will occupy 120 hectares of the land, and for accommodation there will be 20 bungalows and 172 other guestrooms in one form or another.
At the ground-breaking ceremony, company chair Nguyen Thi Le Huyen said the resort would open in 2007.
“Hoi An Golf Resort will act as a tourism magnet and draw people to the central region,” Huyen told a large crowd of people from STI, Pepsi, Sadeco, the HCM City Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients and the family of late composer Trinh Cong Son. To spread around goodwill in the build-up to Tet (Lunar New Year), he used the occasion to present a 50 million dong donation to the Quang Nam Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients.
That evening, many of those present at the groundbreaking ceremony took a large bundle of presents and good cheer to an old people’s home and a children’s shelter nearby.
In all, the elderly at Hoi An Social Centre and the physically impaired children at the Centre for Rehabilitation, Orphans and Malnourished Children received 49 million dong and US$100 in cash, clothes, soft drink, toys and other gifts for Tet.
Hoi An gets similar visits every year from members of HCM City’s business community, who go there with the sole purpose of helping the tourist mecca’s less fortunate citizens.
