Ericsson has signed a multi-year frame agreement with the mobile operator Viettel for the expansion of Viettel’s GSM/GPRS network in Vietnam. Under the agreement, Ericsson will provide Viettel with core and radio access network equipment, service layer platforms, GPRS, and network rollout and support services. The network will have EDGE capability, which lays a solid foundation for a future-proof network migration to 3G.
Today, Vietnam is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world.
“The agreement will further strengthen Ericsson’s position as Viettel’s leading GSM system supplier,” said Staffan Holmer, had of sales for the Asia Pacific region at Ericsson. “We will increase our market share in the dynamic and fast-growing Vietnamese mobile market, at the same time as our proven GSM technology continues to gain market shares throughout the region, based on a continued demand for both coverage and capacity”.
The state-of-the art network technology supplied by Ericsson will enable military-run firm Viettel, currently the fastest growing mobile operator in Vietnam, to continue its rapid nationwide network rollout, as well as to provide new advanced voice and high speed data services to a growing number of mobile phone users in Vietnam.
Ericsson is shaping the future of mobile and broadband internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
