EU trade commissioner plans visit
It is scheduled that new EU trade commissioner Peter Mandelson will visit Vietnam for the first time on April 26-27. As planned, Mandelson will attend many high ranking meetings with the Vietnam government and Asean-EU ministerial Consultancy Meeting.
This visit marks basic progresses in Vietnam-EU trade relations, particularly completion of the bilateral negotiation on Vietnam?s entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the bilateral market access agreement. Under the bilateral market access agreement, the EU will immediately remove apparel quotas for Vietnam. Vietnam hopes to take this opportunity to double export to the EU.
