EVN proposes to increase electricity price by 6-14pct

Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) has lately submitted to Ministry of Industry and Trade and Ministry of Finance four proposals of increasing electricity price, in which the highest increasing rate was 14 percent and the lowest of 6 percent.

In details, according to the first proposal, if the coal price increases by 138 percent against the current one, the electricity price will be increased by nearly 14 percent. In the second one, the electricity price will be raised by 9 percent in case coal price up 47 percent. In the third one, electricity price jumps by 7 percent in case coal price up 15 percent and the last one, EVN proposes the increase of 6 percent in electricity price if coal price raises by 10 percent.

EVN also proposed that the new electricity price would be applied at the time the coal price offered to the power industry increased.
EVN explained the increase in electricity price was because Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industry Group has increased the offered coal price by 149 percent for coal dust 4b and about 137 percent for coal dust 5, resulting in the increase in electricity production cost in 2010 by 4.182 trillion dong.
