EVN Telecom launches cable broadband
Vietnam cable Television and EVN Telecom launched a service, on December 12 that lets people get broadband internet access their television cable. To get the high-speed connection, Cable Television’s current customers will have to pay a small monthly fee and guy anew device, which separates television signals and internet data.
With Cable Television’s European-standard coaxial and optical cable network, users can download information at up to 56 megabytes per second and upload at a maximum rate of 3.0 megabytes per second.
Users will be able to watch television on the computer, view on-demand television programmes and make telephone calls over the internet. EVN Telecom offers different packages for families, businesses and internet cafes.
The service is based on a solution of Siemens Corp., said Nguyen Manh Bang, director of EVN Telecom, a subsidiary of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
In Vietnam, this type of internet connection is still in development but is gaining ground.
Internet access through television cables is popular especially in North America, Europe and some countries in Asia.
In the US, the service has attracted about 19.7 million users so far. In 2008, the figure is projected to reach 25 million, according to the country’s Telecommunications Industry Association.
