Expat employees a boon for domestic firms

The number of foreign citizens working in for Vietnamese companies HCM City has been rising over the last few years, and they have helped improve the efficiency of their employers, company directors recently said. Since 2000, the HCM City labour department has granted work permits to 2,600 expats in the city.

Most foreign employees are proficient in the English language, which helps businesses gain easier access to foreign partners and expand its markets to other countries, company directors said.

Recruiting foreigners means gaining access to a highly-skilled workforce, remarked Hoang Minh Chau, deputy CEO FPT, an internet and a leading software development group. The government has not yet established strategies to attract foreign experts to work in the country, said Chau. The existing double price policy makes puts them off, he exemplified.
