First measles vaccine factory to cover national vaccination programme
The Ministry of Health and Sabin Centre for Science and Vaccine Production November 3 jointly started construction on a factory of vaccine production in Hoang Mai district of Hanoi with standard of goods manufacturing practice (GMP) standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The factory with has a designed capacity of 7.5 million doses of measles vaccine each year. It will be completed in the beginning of 2006 with total cost of some US$25 million, including US$20 million in aid from the Japanese government to facilitate the full operation of the factory by 2008.
According to minister of Health Tran Thi Trung Chien, currently, Vietnam has built national project of measles control through vaccination coverage with two doses of measles vaccine for children aged 9–10 months. When the factory comes into effect, Vietnam will not import vaccine against measles, but will distribute for provinces, cities nation wide in the national open vaccination programme.
