The Central Paediatric Hospital reports that since May, the hospital has admitted 130 children of encephalitis, of whom 70% were diagnosed as Japanese encephalitis type B positive. Of the 130 patients, five died.
Ha Tay province has the highest number of encephalitis patients of 30 cases, followed by Hanoi with 20 cases.
Thanh Hoa, Bac Ninh, HA Nam, and Nam Dinh each has three to eight encephalitis patients.
The hospital’s doctors say that it takes four-seven days to define a child as encephalitis positive, therefore, risks of dumbness, deafness, and brain troubles are very high.
The doctors advise parents to instantly bring their children to hospital for treatment if they have symptoms of high fever, loss of appetite and tiredness, especially in this summer.
