Garment and textile exports forecasted at US$5b

It is likely that the garment and textile sector will export over US$5 billion because in January, many garment and textile manufacturers signed large export contracts for the whole year 2006, according to the Ministry of Trade
Previously, the Vietnam Garment and Textile Association or Vitas has proposed many measures to boost the garment and textile turnover such as establishing many designing and industrial fashion trading centres in HCM City and Hanoi, building centres for transacting clothing and footwear materials in big cities, expanding local and foreign retail sale systems and directly selling garment and textile products with the brand name of Vinatex.
In 2005, in spite of tough competition, Vietnam’s garment and textile sector still recorded about US$4.8 billion of exports.
