Hanoi police report on drug crackdown

Hanoi police arrested 576 people on dug-related charges since beginning a crackdown in December, according to a department announcement. In three months, police seized 954 packages of heron weighing 224 grams, 8.6kg of opium, 71 tablets of amphetamines and 67 ampoules of narcotics.

Between November 2001 and November 2002, police detected 14,000 drug trafficking crimes, confiscating 55kg of heroine and 550kg of opium.

Hanoi and HCM City accounted for 36% of the number of drug-related cases nationwide.
