Authorities in Hanoi’s Tay Ho district ordered Wednesday March 28 the demolition of four unauthorised floors in a building, threatening a large penalty if its owner failed to comply.

The 15-story building, built by the local 646 Construction Investment Co in Buoi ward, was found to be 17m higher than licensed.

Four officials, including the deputy heads of the Tay Ho district and Buoi ward administrations, were suspended for failing to check the illegal construction.

It is not clear yet if any bribery was involved.

Hanoi authorities have recently cracked down on illegal construction which is rife in the capital.

They stopped construction of a 17-story building for lack of license, and demolished five unauthorised stories in another building.
