HCM City canal cleanup projects beset with problems

A meeting was held with the participation of HCM city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the branches and agencies being involved in the implementation of the project intended for water drainage and pollution treatment of such canals as Tham Luong, Ben Cat and Rach Nuoc.
At the conference, participants confessed to the truth that the project is beset with untold difficulties. According to some district representatives the problem lies in the work of compensating for relocation and resettlement. At present only four of eight districts have completed their compensation plans.
Some constructing units have to readjust their detailed plans. The above project amounts to seven trillion dong in value and will be carried out in two phrases from 2004 to 2014.
It is estimated that as many as 2,844 households are affected by the project, out of whom 1,846 households will be resettled with over 700 billion dong worth of compensation.
