Honda Vietnam Co (HVN), the leading motorcycle maker in Vietnam, sold more than 320,000 motor cycles in the first five-months of the year, up more than 50% year-on-year.
Nguyen San, deputy general director of the company, told the Daily at a meeting in HCM City on June 12 that its Honda Wave motorcycles made up more than 80% of the total sales.
The company is looking to sell 770,000units in all of2006.
It also exports motorcycles, as well as motorcycle engines and parts. The period saw the company shipping more than 5,300 motorcycles and 186,000 components abroad.
Shipments to the Philippines, Laos and Cambodia, Honda Vietnam’s key export markets, totalled US$17 million, unchanged from a year earlier.
Since the company started exporting the Wave Alpha in 2002, 168,000 units worth US$113 million have been shipped overseas, including parts.
In a related development, Honda Vietnam will launch its first Civic cars in late August, San said.
