Indonesia has vowed to import cattle from new Zealand to break an Australian embargo.

The Indonesian government has said it plans to import cattle from New Zealand and beef from the USA following an Australian decision which came about after extreme cruelty was exposed on the Four Corners TV programme.

Should the domestic meat supply prove insufficient, Indonesia will break the ban of live cattle exports to Indonesia by Australia.

The cattle cruelty issue in Indonesia’s abattoirs has become a furious debate in Australia.

The Australian government Tuesday night suspended all live cattle exports to Indonesia, in a move that will cost the industry hundreds of millions of dollars.
