International visitors to Hanoi surge 20pct y-o-y

In the first six months of this year, international visitors to Hanoi are estimated to reach over one million arrivals, rising 20 percent over the same period last year.

Some key tourist markets to Hanoi increased significantly such as Korea (estimated at 36,590 arrivals, rising 46 percent on year), Australia with 61,867 people, up 13 percent on year and Japan with 68,738 arrivals, up 24 percent on year.

Also in Jan-Jun period, local tourists to Hanoi are estimated at 7.3 million arrivals, surging 24 percent year-on-year.

According to Truong Minh Tien, deputy director of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the past six months, Hanoi’s tourism operations have continued to maintain growth rate as targeted and will reach the target of welcoming over two million international visitors and 12.8 million local tourists in 2012.
