International visitors to Vietnam in January up 20.4pct
Total number of international tourists visiting Vietnam in January was estimated at 416,000 arrivals, increasing 10.6 percent compared to previous month and up 20.4 percent against the same period of 2009, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) on January 26.
Of which, tourists from Australia saw a rise of 26.3 percent, Canada up 24.3 percent, Korea 21.1 percent and Japan up 3 percent.
Notably, in January, tourists from China witnessed an impressive increase of 94 percent year-on-year, reaching 59,000 arrivals.
According to MoPI, the reason is due to Vietnam reopened to welcome Chinese tourists to 63 provinces and cities of Vietnam with the tourist card fee of only $10. In addition, Chinese tourists will be allowed to fly on Vietnam’s domestic flights.
Also in January, many foreign tourist ships chose Vietnam to be destination such as Voyages of Discovery with 900 foreigners, Spirit of Discovery with 800 visitors, five-star seagoing ship Costa Classica with 2,000 visitors.
However, regarding transport means, the total number of international visitors arriving Vietnam in January by air reached 244,000 arrivals whereas the visitors chose road was only 67,000 arrivals.
