Japan utilities December coal consumption falls yr/yr

Japan’s 10 utilities consumed less thermal coal to generate electricity in December than a year earlier, industry data showed on Friday.

The utilities also burned 0.34 million kilolitres of fuel oil last month compared with 0.75 million kl a year earlier, data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan showed.

They generated 84.01 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in December, up 1.3 percent from a year earlier, the first rise in 17 months, and in line with expectations for a 1.5 percent rise in a Reuters survey.
