July 18: Vietnam Shares Extend Gain, Heavy CTG Deal Seen Again
Vietnamese shares continued to post gain today as investors picked up stocks on hope of better economic conditions in the second half.
The benchmark VN Index rose 1.28 points or 0.31 percent to 418.83. Volume rose 2.6 percent to 49.4 million shares worth of VND790.7 billion. Put through trading contributed 11.96 million shares worth of VND256.95 billion.
We saw 9.3 million CTG shares changed hands at VND22,000 each, the same price level that 10 million CTG shares changed hands a day earlier.
The market breadth was almost flat on the primary bourse where 110 stocks advanced, 119 declined, 68 closed unchanged.
The VN30 gained 1.07 points or 0.22 percent, to 494.11. Amongst its 30 members, 12 gained, 14 lost and 4 unchanged.
The market opened in the green with 2.3 million shares changed hands. The trading pace was good as buyers and sellers played tug-of-war game. The green color was kept in the morning session but the index fell into the negative territory in early afternoon session for around 30 minutes before the buyers came back to buoy the index and market closed in the green.
Sacom Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) was the focus of the market today as its trading was fast and heavy, the bulls and the bears showed much conviction during the trading. SAM became the most active stock with 3.2 million shares traded, closing at the ceiling price of VND8,000.
Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came second in volume with 1.9 million units traded, closing up 2.35 percent to VND17,400.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) ranked third with 1.7 million shares changed hands, closing up 1 percent to VND20,900.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX bucked trend to close down 0.37 point or 0.52 percent to 71.03. Trading volume fell 5.17 percent to 38.4 million shares worth VND369.3 billion.
The market breadth was negative where 93 rallied, 124 declined, 68 closed unmoved and the rest unchanged.
HNX30 lost 1.6 points or 1.18 percent to 134.63.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was the most active stock on the bourse with 4.4 million shares traded, closing flat at VND10,700.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came second with 3.5 million shares traded, closing down 3.2 percent to VND 9,200.
Sai Gon Thuong Tin Real Estate JSC (SCR) ranked third with 2.3 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND10,100.
