July 25: Vietnam Shares Falls Fourth Straight Day on Local Selling
Vietnamese shares extended losses today as local investors sold shares minimise risks after recent sharp retreat.
The benchmark VN Index fell for a fourth straight session, losing 2.72 points or 0.65 percent to 412.91. Volume fell further by 3 percent to 43.5 million shares worth of VND707 billion. Put through trading contributed 4.4 million shares worth of VND172.63 billion.
Of note, there were nearly 2 million FPT shares changed hands at VND51,000 each versus the market close price today of VND47,500.
The market breadth remained negative on the primary bourse where 71 stocks advanced, 177 declined, 61 closed unchanged.
The VN30 lost 2.97 points or 0.6 percent, to 488.37. Amongst its 30 members, 7 gained, 15 lost and 8 unchanged.
The market opened in the red with 3.9 million shares changed hands. Some bottom fishing activities were seen but selling pressure was stronger in general, especially in the afternoon session and market mostly stayed in the negative ground. Interestingly, the market lost the same points in all ATO, order-matching and ATC sessions though the index swung in and out the negative ground today.
Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) was the most active stock on a trade of 2.6 million shares, falling 2.9 percent to end at VND6,800.
LGC was the second most traded issue on the gauge with 1.7 million units, rising 4.7 percent to settle at VND17,900.
VNE came third in volume with 1.7 million shares traded, closing down 2.6 percent to VND7,400.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX lost 0.16 point or 0.23 percent to 69.68. Trading volume fell 27.2 percent to 37.4 million shares worth VND347 billion. Falling volume indicated easing selling pressure rather than weak buying interest as demand at low prices was heavy.
The market breadth was negative where 96 rallied, 110 declined, 70 closed unmoved and the rest unchanged.
HNX30 fell 0.23 point or 0.17 percent to 132.08.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) the most active on the measure with 6.5 million shares changed hands, closing down 4.5 percent to end at VND8,600.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND),came second in liquidity on a trade of 4.6 million units, closing flat at VND10,500 per share.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) came third in volume with 3 million shares traded, closing flat at VND10,000.
