July 31: Vietnam Shares Edges Down, Liquidity Stays Low

Vietnamese shares closed down on Tuesday and liquidity stayed low as investors were in the waiting mood.

The benchmark VN Index fell 0.52 points or 0.12 percent to 414.48. Volume fell further by 4.8 percent to 25.4 million shares worth of VND417.1 billion. Put through trading contributed 4.8 million shares worth of VND110.96 billion.

The market breadth was still negative on the primary bourse where 109 stocks advanced, 122 declined, 78 closed unchanged.

The VN30 lost 0.31 point or 0.06 percent, to 491.98. Amongst its 30 members, 12 gained, 10 lost and 8 unchanged.

The market opened in the green with nearly 1.1 million shares changed hands, caution remained. The morning trading pace was very slow as both buyers and sellers were in the waiting mood, the market went in and out of the positive area for several times before closing down in the afternoon session.

There was no special movement that can drive the market today, trading in general was boring which explained the lower volume.

Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) was the most active stock with 1.3 million shares traded, closing flat at VND6,700.

Ocean Group JSC. (OGC) came second with 1.1 million shares changed hands, closing down 0.8 percent to VND12,600.

Sacom Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) ranked third with nearly 1 million shares traded, closing up 1.3 percent to vND8,100.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX lost 0.26 point or 0.37 percent to 69.19. Trading volume fell 3.7 percent to 24.2 million shares worth VND235.4 billion.

The market breadth was negative where 88 rallied, 117 declined, 72 closed unmoved.

HNX30 lost 0.47 point or 0.36 percent to 130.92.

VNDirect Securities (VND), the most active on the measure with 2.6 million shares changed hands, closed flat at VND10,900.

Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) came second in volume with 2.4 million units traded, closing up 1 percent to VND10,000 per share.

Sai Gon Thuong Tin Real Estate JSC (SCR) ranked third with 9.9 million shares traded, closing down at VND9,900.
