South Korea’s industrial output increased at a faster rate in May than in the preceding month, beating forecasts, figures showed on Friday.

Production in mining and manufacturing rose a seasonally adjusted 1.1 percent month-on-month after a 0.9 percent rise in April, Statistics Korea said.

Nine economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had tipped an average 0.2 percent rise in May.

Year-on-year, May output was up 2.6 percent compared with no change in April and a 0.6 percent gain forecast by the Dow Jones poll.
