Malaysia has prospered over the past 55 yrs, says Najib
Malaysia has attained success and progress over the past 55 years because the government delivers on its promises, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The prime minister said there were countries which had gained independence long before Malaysia but had not attained that much progress.
“For the past 55 years, the government has delivered. We promised to transform the nation and we did so, from an agricultural to industrial-based economy. Now we are heading towards achieving a high-income nation status.
“We promised to guarantee that the rakyat would live in peace and harmony, and that too we have fulfilled,” he said at the launching of Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign in conjunction with the 55th Merdeka celebration at Little India in Brickfields yesterday.
Thousands of people gathered at the launch, waving the Jalur Gemilang.
This year’s celebration is themed 55 Tahun Merdeka, Janji Ditepati (55 years of Merdeka, Promises Fulfilled).
The prime minister said under the 1Malaysia concept, policies which were fair to all races had been put in place, adding that problems faced by all races were identified and resolved.
Najib said issues that were important to each race would be resolved by the government.
“I believe that if we are fair to all, the rakyat will truly feel it is meaningful when they cry out 1Malaysia.”
Najib said the country’s forefathers had fought with their blood, sweat and tears for the nation to achieve independence and the rakyat of today must take it upon themselves to ensure the nation remained free.
“Let us all fly the Jalur Gemilang to show the world our love and loyalty to this beloved country.
“Let us fly the flag everywhere from the highest skyscraper to our homes, shops and vehicles. Let us all close ranks and work together to make Malaysia a successful nation in the truest sense of the word.”
