Malaysia now has its own Lamborghini with the unveiling of a “supercar” exclusively built for the local market.
The high-end sports car, the new Lamborghini Gallardo MLE (Malaysia Limited Edition), made its debut in a glitzy ceremony here yesterday.
The V10 powered Gallardo MLE is the result of a year-long collaboration between Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur and the principal company in Italy, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.
Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur chief operating officer Marcus Chye said many local customers wanted their cars to have the interior of a standard Gallardo model but with the exterior of the Superleggera 570-4.
“So, we have given them the best of both worlds. The car looks fierce on the outside but is comfortable and spacious on the inside for everyday driving in Malaysia,” he said.
Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur chair Chut Nyak Isham Nyak Ariff said the model, which is only available in the Malaysian market, would have 20 specially built units.
The Gallardo MLE, a variant of the company’s best-selling model, sports an aggressive front bumper, carbon side skirts, titanium exhaust tips and a carbon-fibre rear diffuser.
Its 5.2-litre V10 engine can go up to a maximum 550hp with a top speed of 320kph. It can sprint from rest to 100kph in 3.9 seconds.
The on-the-road price is RM1.68mil without insurance.
All cars come with a three-year factory warranty.
The new model, available in three colours – Bianco Monocerus (solid white), Verde Ithaca (pearl green) and Arancio Borealis (pearl orange) – is anticipated to be highly sought after by sports car enthusiasts and collectors.
The car was brought in by Eminent Century Sdn Bhd and JH Italia Sdn Bhd. Eminent Century is the official Malaysian importer for Lamborghini cars while JH Italia is its sole dealer in the country.
