Malaysia on track to achieve 5pct-6pct export growth, says trade minister
Malaysia is on track to achieve exports growth of 5 percent-6 percent in 2012 despite tepid global demand, the minister for International Trade and Industry said Thursday.
“The initial numbers which we obtained for the month of May indicate that we are well within [reach of the] target,” Mustapa Mohamed said at a news conference.
Exports contracted in April, by 0.1 percent, for the second successive month, dragged down by a 14 percent year-on-year decline in shipments to the European Union, fanning concerns that the trade-dependent Southeast Asian country may struggle to meet its full-year exports target.
