March 14: Vietnam Stocks Close Mixed, Liquidity Steady

Vietnamese stocks closed mixed today as heavy weighs lifted VN Index but profit taking in pennies sent the HNX Index down, liquidity stayed at good level.

The benchmark VN Index gained 4.47 points or 1.04 percent to 433.86. Volume rose 1.8 percent to 64.09 million shares changed hands for VND986.46 billion of which put-through trading contributed 4.16 million shares and VND158.06 billion.

Of note, we saw 1 million VIC shares changed hands at the neutral line of VND101,000 a share, 205,000 SSI shares changed hands at the floor price VND17,100.

VN30 added 4.81 points or 0.99 percent to stand at 486.42. Volume was 21.34 million shares worth of VND442.53 billion, down 0.21 percent in volume but up 4.18 percent in value from Tuesday.

Market breadth turned negative; losers outpaced gainers by 164-96 and 50 stayed unchanged, of which 35 limited up, 77 limited down.

STB continued to outperform wSTC share prices limited up and 4.53 million shares were changed hands of which foreigners bought 3.98 million shares. Strong demand came from ETFs which added STB in their portfolio recently. Other banking stocks were mixed, CTG and VCB were gainers while EIB, MBB lost.

Property shares were weak NTL, SJS, ITC, ITA, LCG, KBC, DXG, were all losers.

Broker shares SBS continued its ceiling performance with 457,710 shares changed hands, demand looked solid while HCM broke even, SSI lost.

Active players included NVT, STB, MBB, SAM, EIB, PVF.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 1.26 points or 1.79 percent to 69.28. Trading volume fell 15.8 percent to 67.42 million shares traded for VND589.58 billion. Market breadth turned negative with 109 gainers, 233 losers, 54 unchanged of which 30 hit the ceiling while 50 fell to the floor.

The focus of the market today was HBB trading with 18.7 million shares changed hands. HBB closed at the floor with 2.2 million shares queued at the floor price in the offer side.

Other active players were VND, PVX, KLS, SHB of which only SHB closed up.
