March 19: Vietnam Stocks Gain, Broker, Banking Shares Outperform
Vietnamese stocks struggled for direction today before closing the morning session up, money flew to securities stocks.
The benchmark VN Index added 1.65 points or 0.38 percent to 440.17. Volume fell to 40.88 million shares changed hands for VND619.2 billion of which put-through trading contributed 3.98 million shares and VND72.92 billion.
Put-through trading saw 1.8 million ITA shares changed hands at the floor price of VND10,000.
Market opened the morning session in the red with 3.8 million shares changed hands as both buyers and sellers were more cautious. Trading pace slowed down and liquidity dropped. Buying interest from 9:45 to 10:10 sent the market up to the positive ground, and then, the market struggled for the direction before closing up.
VN30 gained 2.88 points ỏ 0.58 percent to 499.75. Volume was 13.69 million shares worth of VND304.89 billion.
Market breadth was negative; losers outpaced gainers by 135-101 and 74 stayed unchanged, of which 23 limited up, 23 limited down.
Broker shares outperformed, SBS continued its ceiling performance while SSI, HCM gained.
Banking stocks posted solid gains, VCB hit the ceiling price, CTG, MBB, EIB closed up, only STB fell on profit taking after recent strong rally.
Property shares recovered somehow; NTL, ITA, ITC, DIC, KBC, TDH gained, DXG, SJS, LCG closed down.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX gained 0.58 point or 0.79 percent to 73.34. Trading volume fell to 52.15 million shares traded for VND478.1billion.
Market breadth turned negative with 107 gainers, 221 losers, 68 unchanged of which 45 hit the ceiling while 22 fell to the floor.
Market focus today turned to VND which saw 9.6 million shares changed hands, mostly at the ceiling price.
Other active players were PVX with 5.3 million shares, HBB with 4.8 million shares and KLS with 3.1 million shares
