March 2: Vietnam Stocks Soar on Rising Demand

Vietnamese stocks surged today as investors continued to upload shares on hope of a sustainable rally, liquidity stayed at high level.

The benchmark VN Index gained 11.65 points, or 2.72 percent to end at 439.6. Volume fell 8.75 percent to 81.7 million shares worth VND1.24 trillion, including 6.7 million shares worth of VND131.84 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.

VN Index opened in the green with 3.63 million shares traded. The trading pace kept being fast and buyers were aggressive and liquidity was good. The market went further north as it progressed and VN Index closed the day at the high.

Heavy weighs BVH, MSN, MBB, VIC hit the upper limit, other blue chips post strong gain and market indicator SSI limited up.

VN30 gained 12.53 points or 2.55 percent, surpassing the threshold 500 to 503.54 today. Volume rose 19.35 percent to 26.67 million worth of VND543.63 billion.

The market breadth was positive. Among 308 listed firms on STC, gainers outpaced losers by 208-63 and 37 stocks unchanged of which 92 hit upper limit and 19 hit lower limit.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) continued to be the most active stock today with 14.09 million shares traded, closing up 4.7 percent to VND15,600.

Vietnam Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (EIB) ranked second with 5.37 million shares traded, closing up 4.3 percent to VND19,500.

Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) was in the third place with 2.95 million shares traded, closing up 0.9 percent to VND22,200.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) and Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) followed with 2.7 million shares and2.4 million shares, respectively.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed up 2.14 points or 3.08 percent to 71.72. Trading volume rose 14.75 percent to 73.94 million shares traded for VND704 billion of which only 2 million shares worth VND38.12 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.

Market breadth was narrowly positive with 247 gainers, 64 losers and 84 flat issues.

Hanoi Investment general Corporation (SHN) led the market in volume with 6.8 million shares changed hands, closing up 1.8 percent to VND6,700.

PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) ranked second with 6.66 million shares traded, closing up 6.3 percent to VND10,100 each.

Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was in the third place with 5.5 million shares changed hands, closing up 6.5 percent to VND11,400.
