Vietnamese stocks ended mixed today as investors hunted bargain on the STC but still sold on the HNX, liquidity still at good level.
The benchmark VN Index added 0.45 point or 0.1 percent to 432. 11. Volume continued to fall 12.8 percent to 78.99 million shares changed hands for VND1.493 trillion of which put-through trading contributed 7.34 million shares and VND517.67 billion.
Of note, 4.03 million MSN were changed hands at the neutral price of VND113,000 a share today.
Market resumed afternoon session with renewed buying interest. Trading pace and liquidity eased but still in good level. In fact, demand rose in the afternoon session and market participants seemed to be used to extended trading hours. VN Index closed marginally in the positive ground with support from heavy weighs BVH, MSN, and VIC.
VN30, however, lagged behind with a loss of 2.02 points or 0.41 percent to stand at 487.03. Volume was 24.56 million shares worth of VND492 billion.
For the week, VN Index lost 7.49 points or 1.7 percent while VN30 fell faster with a loss of 16.51 points or 3.28 percent.
The market breadth remained negative but improved from morning session. Among 308 listed firms on STC, losers outpaced gainers by 153-105 and 50 stocks unchanged of which 34 stocks hit upper limit and 60 hit lower limit.
Notably, banking stocks were still weak, STB limited down, CTG, EIB, MBB lost and only VCB rose.
Property shares still outperformed: NTB, NTL, SJS, ITC, ITA, LCG, and VIC post gained but HAG limited down for a second day.
Broker stock SBS stayed firmly at the ceiling level with 5.5 million shares traded, another 1.5 million shares queued at the close waiting to be filled at upper limit price while its peers HCM and SSI fell.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.27 point or 0.38 percent to 71.56. Trading volume fell 24.8 percent to 71.46 million shares traded for VND651.55 billion.
For the week, HNX Index lost 0.16 point or 0.22 percent.
Market breadth stayed negative with 93 gainers, 246 losers and 56 flat issues of which 37 shares limited up while 72 hit the floor.
Of note, HBB and SHB ended their ceiling gain string today, both saw floor action.
VCG closed limit-up with 3.56 million shares traded. KLS closed at the neutral line with 3.2 million shares traded, VND, PVX, SCR were active and closed off the lows.
