Methamphetamine Use On the Rise Among Lao Students

Drug use in Laos is on the rise among young people, especially students. A random urine test during the past year indicates an increase from the previous 12 months’ rate of 4% to the current rate of 28% in the use of methamphetamine.
Laos drug czar, Soubanh Srithirath, head of the National Drug Control and Suppression Commission, acknowledges to VOA that his country is a major transit point for drug traffickers.
