The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs is circulating a draft of proposed amendments to the Labour Code for comment by government officials, organisations, enterprises and individuals. Among the proposed changes, Article 178 would stipulate that the maximum term of a work permit for a foreign worker would be 12 months as opposed to the current 36 months. In addition, foreign employees who work in Vietnam for less than three months would not be required to apply for a work permit. Under Article 12 of the draft, enterprises which hire women or the disabled would be eligible to apply for loans with preferred interest rates, for support from national funds on employment settlement, and for tax reductions.
