MSCI Asia Pacific ex Japan stocks index rises to 3-mth high

The MSCI index of stocks in the Asia Pacific region outside Japan rose to its highest level in three months on Thursday, climbing more than 4% on strength in the financial and materials sectors.

Bank shares in the region have been rising in anticipation of an easing in US accounting rules.

Investors also have been hoping the ailing US economy could not get any worse and may even be turning up.
