N Korea holds military parade amid succession
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and his son are watching a massive military parade in Pyongyang to mark the 63rd anniversary of the country’s founding.
North Korea’s official television showed goose-stepping troops carrying rifles, rocket launchers and a large portrait of the country’s late founder Kim Il Sung as they marched past Kim Jong Il and his youngest son Kim Jong Un.
Kim Jong Il inherited the country from his father Kim Il Sung. The 69-year-old leader is now trying to pass his power on to his third son.
The two saluted, the son standing stiffly in a black Mao suit, and clapped hands on a podium as thousands of civilians gathered in neat rows, waving pink artificial flowers and chanting Kim Jong Il’s name.
