New steel development plan to 2025
Vietnam’s steel industry needs between US$10-US$12 billion for its development between 2007 and 2025, according to a 2007-2025 steel development plan approved by the prime minister on September 4.
The plan requires the sector to meet all domestic demand by 2025 and produce some more for export.
Vietnam is forecast to require between 10-11 million tonnes of steel by 2010 and 24-25 million tonnes by 2025 to satisfy huge demand from property and infrastructure development. The plan has singled out key projects for priority investment in the 2007-2015 period.
