A 52-yearold man from northern Vinh Phuc Province was admitted into the Institute of Clinical Medicine for Tropical Diseases last Thursday May12 with the symptoms of bird flu.
Nguyen Duc Hien, head of the institute, said the patient was the first case in more than one-month. However, the Ministry of Health has not confirmed this case while pending more test results, according to Hien.
However, Ta Van Chan, director of Vinh Phuc’s Preventive Medicine Centre, was quoted by sources as saying the patient had tested positive for the H5N1 virus.
Chan said the man, who suffers from a mental disorder, collected dead chickens in his village and brought them home for meals last month. He later developed a high fever, coughing and breathing difficulties, he said.
Apart from this case, no patients are under treatment in the country for bird flu.
On Friday, the last H5N 1 patient named Nguyen Si Tuan was discharged from the Institute of Clinical Medicine for Tropical Diseases.
