Thailand could export more than 10 million tons of rice this year, up from a previous forecast of 9.5 million tons, due to strong overseas demand, exporters said on Friday.

"We definitely could export more than 10 million tons this year," Chookiat Ophaswongse, president of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, told Reuters.

Thailand, the world's biggest rice exporter, shipped 9.5 million tons in 2007 and had expected to export a similar amount this year.

It shipped a record 10.13 million tons of rice in 2004.
