Coffee exports from Vietnam, the world's second-largest producer, may drop 4.5 percent in August compared with last month, according to preliminary government figures that cut by 1 percent the estimate for shipments in July.

Exports this month may total 85,000 metric tonnes compared with July's 89,000 tonnes and last August's 60,000 tonnes, the general Statistical Office said yesterday. Exports over the first eight months may be 835,000 tonnes compared with 848,000 tonnes in the same period last year, according to the e-mailed statement.

Robusta fell by the most since at least January 2008 in London yesterday, losing 7.7 percent to $1,640 a tonne, as commodity prices fell on concern that the recovery was faltering. Vietnam is the world's largest producer of robusta beans.
