Vietnam H1 new vehicle sales plunge 30.2pct yoy

New vehicle sales in Vietnam in the first half of this year fell 30.2 percent on year, figures released Wednesday by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association show.

Sales of new cars, trucks and buses - including imports and locally produced vehicles - were down to 47,909 units in the January-June period, from 68,609 units in the year-earlier period, VAMA said.

In June, sales of new vehicles fell 0.5 percent on year, but increased 10.7 percent from May to 9,699 units, it added.

According to government data, Vietnam imported 32,100 fully assembled vehicles valued at $392 million in the first six months of this year.

Imports of vehicles and parts from January to June were worth a combined $966 million, down 47.9 percent on year.
