Steel maker post '09 after-tax profit of 738.9b dong

Steelmaker Pomina reported reaching 7.539 trillion dong in 2009 revenue, jumping 310 billion dong or 4.3 percent year-on-year while its profit increased nearly two fold from 758 billion dong to 1.415 trillion dong. Marginal profit of Pomina surged from 10.5 percent and 18.8 percent correspondingly.

The company last year spent 519 billion dong on financial costs, soaring from 2008's 264 billion dong, earned pre-tax profit of 873 billion dong, a year-on-year growth of 81 percent and after-tax profit of 738.9 billion dong.

Late 2009 Pomina raised its charter capital from 820 billion dong to 1.620 trillion dong through issuing 80 million shares for swapping stocks of Thep Thep Viet Joint Stock Co. In January 2010, Pomina applied to list on Hochiminh Stock Exchange.

Pomina now is one of the biggest steelmakers in Vietnam. Last June, the company finished construction on Pomina Phu My steel rolling mill with capacity of 500,000 tonnes a year, bringing total capacity of Pomina to 1.1 million tonnes.

In September 2009, the firm started work on 1 million tonne/year steel billet mill.
